The Hulpkas voor Ziekte- en Invaliditeitsverzekering / Caisse Auxiliaire d’Assurance Maladie-Invalidité (HZIV / CAAMI) is a governmental health agency in Belgium which offers to its registered members the Belgian legal health and disability insurance.
All permanent residents, employees, self-employed and registered unemployed must register with an health insurance fund like HZIV / CAAMI.
Members of HZIV / CAAMI:
- Can receive reimbursements for the costs of their medical care: medical doctor, dental practitioner, physiotherapist, speech therapist, nursing care, medication, hospital care…
- Can receive an allowance while being unable to work, becoming a parent or becoming disabled (either temporarily of permanent).
The insurance coverage from HZIV / CAAMI is funded by the government via social security contributions.
